OUACHITa Films

Narrative and documentary storytelling

Students pursuing filmmaking have opportunities to produce documentaries and short films through course-related productions, independent study and honors projects. Collectively, student-produced visual narratives are curated as Ouachita Films.

Students also study the intersection of faith and film, thinking critically about the impact of narrative storytelling in culture. The OBU at Sundance program allows students to attend the annual film festival, meet with filmmakers and engage in meaningful dialogue with professors, creators and one another.

Ouachita students have won several regional awards for visual storytelling, including:

  • Best Student Film, Branson International Film Festival
  • 3 Student Emmy Awards, National Association of Television Arts and Sciences/Mid-America
  • Award of Excellence, Media Arts Festival/Broadcast Education Association

"The ability to take one's gifts and sharpen one's skills to create the ultimate storyteller is not often found, but here it exists in nearly perfect form."
